General Job Description
The BIS Educational Librarian is a knowledgeable resource who encourages literacy, critical thinking and research for the whole BIS community. The educational librarian is responsible for organizing, managing and checking out of the collections of books, textbooks, reference materials, teacher resources and other data resources. In addition, she/he is responsible for helping students and teachers find resources or information in the library that they may need.
Other responsibilities are required, with the most essential listed below:
Coordinate in the acquisition (ordering), organization, and distribution of resources for the academic year
Ensure BIS’ collection of resources are appropriate for the curriculum, the learners, and the instructional strategies used within BIS by collaborating with the Headmaster, Head Teachers, and all teachers
Work with students and teachers to help guide them to reading material of their appropriate reading level.
Empower students to be enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and use information ethically, fostering a love of learning and reading
Collaborate with teachers when requested/necessary for the design and implementation of curriculum
At the elementary level, the librarian will also be responsible for organizing mini lessons and/or story time to teach meaningful literacy skills and a love for reading during weekly class library visits.
Basic Qualifications include:
Bachelor of Education/English preferred
previous experience in a library or classroom preferred
