Job Description
Dulwich College Seoul British School seeks an enthusiastic and skilled Science Technician for the Senior School.
Full-time Position with 1 year contract (renewable) from August 2023.
Responsible to: Lead Science Technician / Head of Science
• 5 days per week (Mon to Fri) during College term time, minimum hours 7.45am to 4.45pm
The Science department runs a Key Stage 3 course based on Activate Science (Years 7-9), the CIE IGCSE Coordinated Science course at Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), and IB Diploma courses in Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Systems & Society, and Physics.
Purpose of job: To work as a member of the team providing a technician service to the Science department, and through the provision of this learning support service, promote equality of opportunity for students and staff.
​Preparation, Equipment, and Safety
​• Prepare science equipment and chemicals (both hazardous and non-hazardous) and setting up /checking /issuing equipment and apparatus for use in practical lessons;
• Run trial of experiments before classes, setting up demonstrations.
• Clear away apparatus and chemicals;
• Disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste laboratory materials, as directed by the Lead Science Technician, in accordance with established guidelines.
• Maintain the “living resources” including plants and animals kept in the labs.
• Ensure that all health and safety procedures are updated, understood and followed correctly.
​Supporting Learning and Teaching
​• Support the work of teachers in lab sessions by demonstrating experiments and/or equipment to individuals or small groups.
• Provide support for teachers including help in displays, photocopying, resource ordering.• Participating in the organization and safe storage of equipment and materials and keep the online inventory (Quartzy) up-to-date.
• Maintaining stock levels of basic laboratory consumables and chemicals, notifying the Lead Science Technician of shortages.
• Participate in stock checks, and make local, weekly shopping and manage purchase and reimbursement procedures for the department.
• Providing technical advice and assistance to teaching staff and students regarding the availability and use of equipment. Assisting in practical activities as appropriate.
• Support the planning and running of science trips and after-school science activities.
Safety and security
​• Maintaining satisfactory standards of safety and security within the technician service, in accordance with departmental /CLEAPSS guidelines, School policy and relevant legislation.
Communication
​• Liaise with other departments in the school in matters relating to the technician service. Liaise with technicians in other schools in matters of common interest.
Other duties
• Other appropriate duties as requested by the Lead Science Technician or Head of Science. This may involve work in any area of the department and on any site of the school.
Must be:
• Highly organised administrative skills
• Excellent team player with good communication skills (written and verbal) Korean language with fluent level of English
• Positive, proactive, and trainable
• Science background preferred
• Related experience preferred
• Free to work in Korea
It is a requirement of all staff that they sign the ICT Acceptable User Policy and attend Safeguarding and Prevent training.
